Chapter 01

A Vision Beyond Football

“Football is not the destination. It is the vehicle.”

Talent is common. Opportunity is not. This initiative exists to close the distance between what a young person is capable of and what the world has allowed them to become. We measure success not in goals scored, but in lives given the chance to mean something.

Football, at its purest, is a classroom. It teaches discipline before it teaches skill, humility before it teaches glory, and belonging before it teaches ambition. The lessons learned on the red earth outlast any match — and shape a person long after the final whistle.

This is a movement of purpose. Of leadership forged in effort. Of hope carried forward by a generation that refuses to be forgotten. Where the world sees a game, we see the quiet architecture of a better future — built one child, one opportunity, one belief at a time.

Chapter 02

The Work Has Already Begun

What follows is not a proposal for something new. It is the documentation of something already in motion — a living ecosystem built on years of presence, trust, and action at the grassroots level of Kano State.

The Roots

AA Zaura Kano Street Soccer Programme

A structured annual tournament drawing participants from all 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State, identifying young footballers aged 13 to 18 and connecting them to pathways they would never otherwise encounter.

The Method

Grassroots Talent Identification

Scouts and coaches embedded at the community level — streets, local clubs, neighbourhood grounds — observe, document, and elevate promising individuals before formal academies would ever see them.

The Reach

Community Engagement

Football as a unifying force. The programme bridges social, religious, and geographic divides across Kano's communities, building a platform for peaceful co-existence and collective civic pride.

The Commitment

Youth Development Activities

Scholarships, career guidance, and skills programmes accompany the football pathway — ensuring that the young people touched by this initiative carry more than athletic potential into their futures.

Why Nigeria

The most populous nation in Africa. The youngest giant on the youngest continent. A country where the majority of life has not yet been lived — and where football is the first language of its youth.

— Chapter III

Why Kano State

The historic gateway to Northern Nigeria.

01

Strategic Location

At the crossroads of the Sahel, Kano has been a commercial and cultural hub for over a thousand years — connected by air and road to every region of Nigeria and beyond.

02

Youth Population

One of the most populous states in the federation, with the great majority of its people under the age of 25 — a generation ready to be shaped.

03

Football Culture

Football is woven into daily life. From the red-earth pitches of every ward to the legacy of Kano Pillars, the city lives the game.

04

Regional Influence

As the capital of Northern Nigeria, Kano's reach extends across the Sahel — the natural epicenter for a regional talent movement.

A young football talent on the red earth of Northern Nigeria

— Chapter IV

One of the greatest untapped football talent ecosystems in Africa.

Northern Nigeria holds what the world's academies spend decades searching for — raw, abundant, disciplined talent, raised on hardship and hungry for opportunity. What it lacks is not potential. It is structure. Visibility. A pathway worthy of the talent it already holds.

The opportunity is not to find talent. It is to build the system that lets it rise.

What follows — how we realize it

Chapter 05

Why This Project Will Succeed

Three organisations. One shared vision.

No single entity could carry the weight of this ambition. Each partner brings a strength the others cannot provide — and together they form a single, complete organism capable of operating an official Barça Academy with the discipline, reach and expertise it demands.

A.A. Zaura

Vision & Leadership

A.A. Zaura

The architect of the vision. A figure whose authority in Kano is built on decades of institutional trust, financial capacity and an unwavering commitment to the young. He carries the relationships that allow a project of this scale to move through the corridors of government, commerce and community with equal ease. Without this leadership, ambition remains an idea. With it, the idea becomes an institution.

Vision · Leadership · Financial capacity · Institutional relationships · Long-term commitment to youth

Zeus Sports Promotion

Local Execution

Zeus Sports Promotion

The hands on the ground. Present each morning on the pitches of Kano, embedded in the streets and the communities where the talent first reveals itself. Zeus Sports Promotion carries the daily discipline of grassroots football — the scouting, the training, the patience required to identify a player long before the world has heard his name. This is execution that cannot be imported; it must be lived.

Local execution · Grassroots football · Daily operations · Community trust · Talent identification

JEP Sports Management

International Expertise

JEP Sports Management

The bridge to the world. JEP Sports Management brings the international fluency this initiative requires — an understanding of professional pathways, of club relationships, of the standards a young player must meet to cross from local promise to global career. It is the strategic intelligence that translates Kano's raw potential into the language of European football.

Alone, each is incomplete. Together, they form the only ecosystem capable of carrying this ambition from the streets of Kano to the heart of Barcelona.

Chapter 06

Why FC Barcelona

Because some institutions do not simply develop footballers. They shape people.

For decades, FC Barcelona has represented a philosophy that extends beyond competition.

Its greatest legacy is not measured only by trophies, but by the generations of young people educated through discipline, humility, respect and collective identity.

This project was conceived around those same principles.

Not to replicate La Masia. But to extend its spirit where opportunity remains scarce and potential is abundant.

Northern Nigeria possesses one of the youngest football populations on Earth.

What it lacks is not talent. It lacks access. Structure. Visibility. Education.

The objective is therefore larger than identifying exceptional footballers. It is to create an environment where children learn responsibility before recognition, teamwork before success, and character before professional ambition.

Because the world's greatest academies do not simply discover talent. They cultivate human beings.

The greatest legacy of football is never the player it creates. It is the person who emerges because of it.

Chapter 07

From Vision to Academy

An academy is not a collection of football pitches. It is a system.

Every successful football academy follows the same principle.

Talent alone is never enough. Without methodology, education, medical support, governance, scouting and long-term planning, potential eventually disappears.

This proposal is therefore not centred on building facilities. It is centred on building an institution capable of developing young people according to the standards that define FC Barcelona.

The infrastructure comes afterwards. The culture comes first.

The Academy Ecosystem

Football Methodology

Training based on positional intelligence, technical excellence and decision-making rather than physical advantage.

Education

Academic development, language learning and personal growth integrated into daily life.

Medical & Performance

Nutrition, physiotherapy, injury prevention and long-term athletic development.

Scouting

A structured identification network connecting the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State with the Academy.

Character Formation

Respect. Discipline. Humility. Leadership. The same values expected from every Barça player.

International Pathways

Players remain connected to global football through JEP Sports Management and the international network surrounding the Academy.

Buildings create facilities. Culture creates academies.

Chapter 08

The Role of FC Barcelona

Not as an investor. As a global reference.

The success of this Academy will not depend solely on infrastructure.

Its greatest value will come from the standards that guide it.

FC Barcelona would not be expected to manage daily operations in Kano. Those responsibilities belong to the local partners.

Instead, its role would be to provide something far more valuable: credibility, identity, methodology, and inspiration.

Because institutions capable of transforming lives do not only export knowledge. They export culture.

Areas of Collaboration

Methodological Guidance

Sharing training philosophy, educational principles and player development standards.

Coach Development

Occasional educational programmes, workshops and technical exchanges for local coaches.

Institutional Alignment

The Academy operates independently while respecting the values associated with FC Barcelona.

International Visibility

The project gains global credibility through association with one of football's most respected institutions.

Legacy

Helping create an educational model capable of serving generations of young people beyond football itself.

Great institutions are remembered not for what they own. But for what they inspire.

Chapter 09

A Partnership Built Step by Step

A path leading across the Northern Nigerian landscape at dawn

Phase One

Strategic Alignment

Institutional visits. Technical assessment. The establishment of a shared understanding before any commitment is made.

Phase Two

Coach Education

Methodology. Pilot programmes. The first cohorts of local coaches trained according to Barça principles.

Phase Three

Academy Launch

The first generation of players. International scouting. The moment the institution becomes real.

Phase Four

Long-term Expansion

A regional network. A continental reference. An educational model capable of reproducing itself beyond its origin.

Great institutions are never built in a single decision. They are built through a sequence of shared commitments.

Final Chapter

The Invitation

A young player walking onto an empty pitch at sunrise

Fifty years from now,

thousands of young people may never know who designed this Academy.

But they will know the opportunities it created.

Every great institution begins with one decision.

Perhaps this is the beginning of that story.
